On Giving
Acts 20:35 (King James Version):
“I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
I have been very fortune in this (relatively) young life so far. I have seen exotic places, eaten exotic food, and spent far too much money on shoes. Yet, in my years of working in Ottawa during the dot-com/bomb days, the concept of tithing never occurred to me. Now, faced with health challenges that I have dedicated myself to healing, I see now that part of this process involves healing my relationship with money. I have now dedicated myself to tithing 10% of my income. I have selected my donation recipients as those who provided the most inadvertent (spiritual) kindnesses and inspiration when I was challenged the most with my health. I never knew how good it felt to give… and more so, to give quietly.

Around the World and Home
It’s amazing how life can change and become even more wonderful than one could even conceive of. In 2001, I was in Paris for a night on a quick European weekend jaunt. It used to take events of this magnitude to satisfy me and make me happy. I thought nothing of dropping a large sum of money on jewelry or lingerie, and multiple martinis were a regular occurrence when I lived in Ottawa. I lived whole on the hog; a lifestyle that was in no way sustainable. The last decade was filled with transatlantic adventures, leisurely island living with umbrella drinks, mountains and oceans, planes, trains, and automobiles. The bartenders at YYZ and BUF knew me and my beverage of choice; life was a whirlwind of passport flashing and Visa swiping. This lady now finds a great deal of satisfaction and bliss in a $8.00 Viet-Thai curry. I am finally enjoying the simple life. Material objects have lost their significance to me; I am pursuing inner work and growth. I have been around the world, but I finally feel as though I have come home.

CSA Share Week #1
With great pride, I can attest that nothing was wasted in our first week’s CSA share. Mason jars combined with a plethora of extra vegetables make for some interesting dinners at the cottage.

My Abundant Living
My Cheap Living. Interesting. While my life is now relatively inexpensive, it is anything but cheap. It is abundant, sometimes even opulent.
For $115.56, I covered the taxes and fees on a flight to Ottawa courtesy of my Aeroplan points and spent the weekend at a beautifully rustic cottage in Québec. The sky was clear and there were meteorites. Fine mead and port were shared with aged cheddar cheese and the darkest of chocolate. My weekend was anything but cheap. Inexpensive, yes, but absolutely luminous. Since I believe that consciousness creates reality, I choose to focus on the numinous nature of my existence and all of the treasures contained within it.
