An Argument for Cell-Less

I hate my cell phone. To be more specific, I despise the activity of it as opposed to the device itself. The hunk of junk is merely the vehicle for the action. The physical phone itself has uses; I use it to check the time because I don’t wear a watch. The demands and expectation of the activity fuels my discontent. 50 years ago, there was no such thing as a mobile phone. If you wanted to reach someone, you called and if they weren’t home, SO BE IT. The age of the answering machine was useful; a convenient way to let a person know that their contact was requested. Call display gave the recipient of the call the ability to know the seeker, giving CHOICE to an individual.

Don’t even get me started on texting…!!!!! It is destroying literacy!

The age of the cell phone is simply the age of telecom rudeness and bad manners, in my opinion. I fully support the need of mobile communication for business purposes, and certainly utilized it corporately in the past. I also respect it as being a means of safety; imperative in emergencies. For personal reasons, however, I believe it has gone over the edge. With a cell phone often comes the expectation of immediate access. I do not give this level of access to ANYONE. As of the end of January, I will no longer have a cell phone and couldn’t be happier!

I am not going to put it in my Vitamix; it makes an excellent watch!

This RANT made me nearly spit bee pollen onto the floor!

New Years, New Goals, New Dreams

Goals for 2011

  • LOVE
  • Continue on my full detoxification of my body, mind, spirit
  • Be continually conscious of my health and diet / fully embrace a raw food lifestyle as much as possible
  • Continue with yoga and martial arts
  • Achieve my ACG (Advanced Communicator Gold) designation in Toastmasters

Happy 2011… and may the new year bless you with health, wealth, and wisdom… and hope.

“Hope is a state of mind, not of the world. Hope, in this deep and powerful sense, is not the same as joy that things are going well, or willingness to invest in enterprises that are obviously heading for success, but rather an ability to work for something because it is good.” – Vaclav Havel
